With reference to the sale of $1,700,000 worth of 10-cent pieces on 17/3/16 I attach copy of the rates of bar silver for the period 29/2/16 to 20/4/16, from which it will be seen that the price of silver did not rise to the figure at which we sold to the Indian Government through the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank until the 23rd of March, when it stood at 27 d. per oz. There was therefore no sudden jump immediately after the Bank's offer was accepted. 27 d. was also the price paid by the Bank's purchaser of this amount of sub-coin.
The terms were also f.o.b. Hongkong.
